Exeter – Home Office & Guest Room Garage Conversion

This project is a garage conversion in Exeter and was designed to help a busy family make the most of their available space by converting a cold, unused garage into a comfortable multi-purpose room that functions as both a home office and guest bedroom.

The original garage was dark, un-insulated, and filled with stored items. We began by carrying out a full clear-out and structural assessment, ensuring the space was suitable for conversion and compliance with Building Regulations. From there, our team fitted high-performance insulation, a new sub-floor, and plastered walls and ceiling to create a warm, welcoming environment.

New electrics and lighting were installed throughout, including recessed LED spotlights and additional power points suitable for office equipment. We replaced the old garage door with a double-glazed window and brickwork infill, matching the style of the main property for a seamless exterior look.

Inside, the space was finished with oak-effect flooring, fresh décor, and modern furnishings — including a sofa bed to make the room truly versatile. The end result is a bright, quiet workspace by day and a cosy, functional guest room by night.

This conversion not only enhanced the family’s day-to-day comfort but also added significant value to their home — transforming an overlooked garage into one of the most used rooms in the house.

Exmouth – Family Living Room Garage Conversion

For this project in Exmouth, the homeowners wanted to create a bright, open-plan living area that flowed naturally from the main house.

Their existing garage was underused and disconnected, so our team at Devon Garage Conversions set out to transform it into a modern, comfortable family room perfect for relaxing and entertaining.

We started by stripping back the original space, which featured bare brick walls, a cold concrete floor, and an outdated up-and-over garage door. Once cleared, we fully insulated the walls, ceiling, and floor, bringing the space up to high energy-efficiency standards. New electrics, lighting, and heating were installed to make the room functional and warm all year round.

The old garage door was replaced with French doors leading to the garden, allowing natural light to flood the room and creating a seamless indoor-outdoor feel. Inside, we applied smooth plastered walls, fitted wood-effect flooring, and added recessed LED lighting for a clean, modern finish.

The result is a bright, inviting living space that connects beautifully to the rest of the home — a far cry from the cold, dark garage it once was. The family now enjoys a versatile room that adds both comfort and long-term value to their property.
